Marni's SS09 collection stole my heart. By piling up on the polka-dots, stripes, florals and geometric prints, Consuelo Castiglioni proves to us that it's okay to be eclectic. Actually, it's more than okay to be eclectic; it's gorgeous to be eclectic. The collection combines all of spring's current trends - sorbet colours, florals, african prints, platforms and statement jewellery - and leaves me wanting for more. The sorbet colours and florals cater to girls; big statement jewellery and chunky platforms cater to women. Pencil skirts are no longer black only - Castiglioni invites stripes and floral prints to make the pencil skirt less of a stricly-office wear and more of a daily wear. This collection has truly captured the little girl in all our hearts, sometimes with Lolita-esque knee high socks and sometimes with strawberry ice-cream pink.
And what's most important, is that rather than focusing on the negative economic situation through the use of dramatic structure and dark colours, Marni's SS09 collection lets us know that we've got to put the past behind us and boldy look towards what the future has to offer to us.
